Downtown and Mid-City
Downtown includes the Warehouse District, the Central Business District, the French Quarter, Marigny and Bywater, and Treme. Mid-City has many smaller areas too: Park Side, near City Park, Faubourg St. John, Esplanade Ridge, and the original crossroads of Mid-City: Canal and Carrollton. The Medical Corridor, including the medical schools and teaching hospitals, is wedged between Canal St. and Tulane Avenue, Broad and Claiborne, and is between Mid-City and Downtown.
Downtown includes the CBD, or hub of business in our city, the Port of New Orleans, the arts district, the museum district, the tourism centric French Quarter, the hip and colorful Marigny and Bywater just downriver from the French Quarter (Crescent Park is Riverside of this area), the Superdome and the Convention Center, the Riverwalk Outlet mall and Canal Place, our upscale Riverside shopping destination, and streetcars to get everywhere! Mid-City includes the green and lush City Park (within which is NOMA, the Carousel amusement area and City Putt, along with an 18 hole professional golf course, and the Sculpture Garden), the Fairgrounds, many historic cemetaries, the Lafitte Parkway linear park, many shopping areas, great restaurants, streetcars for ease of getting around.
